LITERACY OUTREACH PROGRAM

The cycle of poverty in Guatemala can only be broken one way- with education. Many families cannot afford to send their children to school and the need for work at an early age ends education for many of those who do attend.

In an effort to offer a better future to these children, a literacy program has been started at the Brazos Abiertos base in San José Pinula. This program is in its early stages. We only have 3 students at present. However, we see this as just the beginning of a more complete program we plan to offer in the near future.

Nichole, our newest intern, is taking an active role in the literacy classes. Her experience as a k-4 teacher is invaluable and has made a huge difference for our students.

BACK YARD BIBLE CLUB

Our Backyard Bible Club in Santa Inez, which we have dubbed "The Little Giants" has been successful in a number of ways. First, the children love to come. They don't want to miss a single week! They are learning to apply the Bible to their daily lives and having fun doing it!

 Also, the mothers have learned to trust us as they sit under out weekly teaching. Now they invite us to their homes to pray for the sick and other various needs.

 The Little Giants has been so successful that we have opened another club in the town of San José Pinula. We have a weekly attendance of 30 children so far in this new area. Plus the 60 children enrolled at in the original Bible Club means that we have nearly 100 children in our care.

FAMILY ACTIVITIES

For nearly a year the Brazos Abiertos outreach team worked hard to put together monthly outreaches which we call Family Activities to two communities in the San José Pinula area: Santa Inéz and El Bordo. The purpose of these outreaches was to make ourselves known to the community. The Activities were a huge success.

BIBLE CLASSES IN LOCAL SCHOOLS AND ORPHANAGES

 

 Doors have opened for us to minister to the local children in schools of San José Pinula and an orphanage. Currently we minister to approximately 1400 children monthly through these outreaches alone.
